What Can Go Wrong?

Interactive preparedness drills

Practise what
happens next.

Most households have a vague plan and an untested assumption. A drill turns both into something you have actually done.

Prep drill — before

You get up
and check.

A prep drill sends you into your own home with a stopwatch. Find the water shut-off. Test the torches. Confirm whether the heating works without mains power. Every task ends verified, unknown, or needs action. Self-recorded Verified means you checked it during this drill and recorded what you found — it is not independent certification.

Response drill — during

You sit down
and decide.

A response drill compresses time. The power is out, the fridge is warming, and one phone battery has to cover coordination or light. Choose, watch the constraints move, read what it cost you.

Lights Out

Planned scenario: the power goes at 18:40 on a January evening. Practise trade-offs around warmth, food, water and phone charge. Not available in this pilot.

Leave Now

A wildfire evacuation window that keeps narrowing. People, pets, documents, fuel, one vehicle. What you leave behind, you leave behind.

Response Pack

A future collection of the response scenarios above. This pilot keeps them visible for feedback, but they are not available yet.

How a drill runs

Four steps, then again next winter.

01Tell it about your household

People, pets, heating, cooking and water. Start with a close match, then refine it. Stored in this browser.

02Do the tasks, or play the moment

Prep drills send you walking. Response drills put you under time pressure at the table.

03See what is actually true

Self-recorded Verified means you checked it in this drill and wrote down what you found. Unknown and needs action stay visible too.

04Leave with a short list

Prioritised actions you can print. Then run it again and see the difference.

Your household stays on your device.

No account to make, nothing to log into. Drill state lives in browser local storage. Reloading needs a connection; you can print the plan for offline reference. One action deletes local drill data.

Questions

Is this emergency advice?
No. It is a rehearsal tool. It does not predict events, certify readiness, or replace guidance from your local authorities — and where a drill touches medical, legal or insurance ground, it says so and stops.
Do I get a readiness score?
Deliberately not. A single number would be false comfort in one direction or theatre in the other. You get what you verified, what is still untested, and what to do next.
How long does the free drill take?
About 35 minutes if you do the tasks properly, and you will be walking around your home for most of it. Stop halfway and come back — it remembers where you were.
What does Self-recorded Verified mean?
It means you checked the item during the drill and recorded what you found. It is evidence from your own check, not independent certification or a readiness guarantee.
What is in development?
Lights Out, Leave Now, and Response Pack are scenario previews in this free pilot. They are not available to run yet.
Is it going to frighten my kids?
It is written for the adults in the household and avoids catastrophe theatre. Children appear as people to plan for, and drills never ask a child to do something unsafe.
